We don’t have a good Democratic candidate’ who could beat TrumpGeorge Clooney doesn’t believe there’s any Democratic standouts who would have a chance in beating President Trump in the 2020 election.
Speaking with the U.K.’s Sunday Times, the Oscar-winning actor and outspoken liberal said the Democratic Party isn’t utilizing Hollywood like it should.
“I sat with the Democratic committee and said, ‘You guys keep coming to us for money, but you don’t come to us for the one thing we know how to do,’ which is make a poster that steals opening weekend,” Mr. Clooney said. “But we don’t have a good Democratic candidate yet. We don’t have anybody who lights up a room.
“Trump, for all his terrible instincts, is very charismatic. A TV star,” he added. “People didn’t vote for him because he accomplished anything. They knew him. And they were, like, he’s exciting. He says outlandish stuff. That’s fun. He’s got a star on Hollywood Boulevard.”
Mr. Clooney, who supported Hillary Clinton’s failed 2016 presidential campaign, said it’s “not necessarily” going to take a celebrity to beat Mr. Trump, but at least a charismatic candidate “who can light up the room.”
