Damian Kolodiy's powerful film 'Freedom or Death' documented the violent 2014 uprising direct from the streets of Kiev; the frontlines of the revolution. Two years on, and with Ukraine still being torn apart by separatist conflict, he now is traveling back to the country to screen his work and spread the truth. Many regions in the East of the country are still largely under Russian influence, and with Russian propaganda the only source of news, the official account of the uprising, and of the ongoing conflict, is hugely distorted.
"When I saw what was happening at Maidan, I wanted to go and sign up for the army and fight, I was filled with so much anger. But after some thought I decided I could be more effective in the information war... Making this film became my mission", Damian explains. Showing the film to ordinary citizens, soldiers and schoolchildren, he is using his work to educate the people of Ukraine, to cut through the Russian propaganda and reveal the truth of what really happened at Maidan; why people rose up and went to war, and why they are still fighting to this day.
